The ideology of universality and accessibility has been explored emphasizing on the fact that - interior is just not mere decor but curating personalized spaces that narrate stories and give a flashback of memories. Crafting spaces that anticipate the needs of the users and appeal to their emotions. Contemporary architecture with simple and elegant interiors caters to the aspirations of the clients as well as responding to the spatial requirements in conjunction with functionality, aesthetics, user centric and sustainable.
AIM
The client was in a wheelchair and owned a bungalow which was difficult to maintain and felt lonely in the house. The client believed in - ‘The more we share the more we have’ with this they had decided to lease the first floor on rent and aimed to have an extended family.
CONCEPT
The concept of universality played an important role where the spaces designed were usable by a wide range of people, regardless of age, size or disability status. While universal design promotes access for individuals with disabilities, it also benefits others.

DESIGN THEORY
Living room was a space designed to help connect the peripheral environment to living spaces through a big opening of glass.
Minimal furniture to allow wider circulation for the wheelchair. Design that blends elegance with minimalism.


OFFICE/GUEST BEDROOM
“The question isn’t about who is going to let me, its about who is going to stop me!”
DESIGN THEORY
Due to her physical limitation, the client chose to work from home but never gave up. The space had to be designed as an office but the client desired to have a Guest Bedroom as well, hence the space was designed to serve both the purposes of making sustainable spaces.

DESIGN THEORY
The kitchen was designed such that the client could work independently and need not rely on anyone’s help.
The design was thought through carefully understanding proximities, essentiality and frequency of use.
This empowered the client, amplifying their confidence.

ACCESSIBILITY CONSIDERATIONS
The kitchen platform was designed and made wheelchair accessible.
The maximum hand reach and the minimum leg space was focused on to make the client use the space unaccompanied.

DINING

DESIGN THEORY
The dining area was design such that the island counter could be used as a table with the microwave and other diner essentials inbuilt to avoid excess movement for the wheelchair user.
A pull down stack of shelves that aligned to become the table when the clients had guests over. This was a multifunctional furniture that served the purpose.

Island Counter
The shelf cum Table was designed taking into consideration the maximum hand-reach of the client for ease of use.

The counter has been designed with an inbuilt microwave for minimal movement and easy accessibility.
BEDROOM

DESIGN THEORY
The shared spaces were designed such that the wheelchair user doesn’t feel different. Bed with a foldable railing and wardrobe designed as per anthropometry of the clients enabling the users to use the furniture without and hassle or assistance. The wardrobe is designed such that the lower part could be easily accessed by the wheelchair bound user and the upper part by the normal user.

BATHROOM

DESIGN THEORY
The bathroom designed has a clear circulation space for the wheelchair, anthropometry guidelines were followed, grab bars were provided at necessary locations to enable safety. The bathroom still looked premium and elegant.
TERRACE
“Family isn’t always by blood, its the people in your life who want you in theirs, accept you for who you are”
DESIGN THEORY
The clients believed that “Sharing joy and happiness it is doubled, sharing sorrow and grief is halved”.
The materials and finishes should be aesthetically appealing nd most importantly they should be low maintenance. There should be a balance between the softscape and hardscape. the pargola been used with a glass top enables the transperancy and retain the openess of the space.

The spaces concious approach to designing the space to address to needs to unknown users that can be expanded as the need.
Sofa Details: The 2 seater sofa rotatesat 90 on a concealed stainless steel pivot fixed to the ground, under the 3 seater sofa when not required.

The dining table was designed such to adapt to the lifestyle of the patrons and be flexible to use. This enables the control of the user enriching the experience. Stainless steel scissor legs that allow the height adjustments making it unique.

BEDROOM 1
“Wake up with the thought that something magical is going to happen!”


A versatile space considering users age, need and demand making it timless. The bed was detailed in a way that it suits a child (single bed), bunk bed and a pull out double bed. Additional storage was provided under the bed to use the available space effectively.
